You thought immediately after surgery you would look like barbie but you didn't plan for swelling or the discomfort even sometimes pain associated with it. Swelling is actually very common and normal, it's lasting effects vary from person to person.

🔹️Factors that cause swelling:🔹️
✔The narcotics used for pain
can slow down the GI tract and cause bloating or constipation
✔General swelling in the soft tissue is common in any type of surgery and is caused by the interruption of the lymphatics
✔A seroma- collection of fluid between the skin and the muscles, that'll need to be drained.

🔹️What to expect:🔹️
Swelling can persist for 6-8 weeks post-op. You should see a noticeable difference as swelling diminishes by 12 weeks post-op. In some cases it can take up to 6 months to a year for swelling to subside.

Things you can do to help with swelling:
✔Lymphatic Drainage Massages- once your surgeon has cleared you
✔Calendula Tea- boiling the tea and applying the tea topically it's anti-inflammatory properties help.
✔Bromelain (this is a supplement that will help with swelling) Bromelain comes from pineapple plant, as a crude extract. Studies show that bromelain has anti-inflammatory, antiedematous, antithrombotic and some fibrinolytic activities on the body.
✔Arnica- Due to its anti-inflammatory properties the use topically or orally reduce pain, swelling and bruising
✔Avoid salt, alcohol, and carbohydrates
✔Eat well and drink lots of water
✔Wear your Compression Garment/Faja regularly
✔Don’t overdo yourself activity-wise
